SALT - Semantically Annotated LaTeX

SALT represents a framework helping the authors to enrich their scientific publications with rhetoric annotations. The framework is composed by two parts:
  • The ontological foundation - is represented by a federation of three ontologies having its roots in the Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST)
  • The annotation mechanism - which relies on the textual environment for which SALT was created, i.e. LaTeX

Using the usual LaTeX and a series of new ones (although respecting the usual format), one can easily trasform a normal document in a semantic document. In practice, the annotation process is interleaved with the authoring process. Thus, after compiling the LaTeX document, the resulted PDF document will contain the annotations embedded during the writing process.

Projects

NEPOMUK

NEPOMUK aims at empowering individual knowledge workers to better exploit their personal information space and to maintain fruitful communication and exchange within social networks across organizational boundaries. NEPOMUK brings together researchers, industrial software developers, and representative industrial users, to develop a com- prehensive solution for extending the personal desktop into a collaboration environment which supports both the personal in- formation management and the sharing and exchange across social and organizational relations. This solution is called the Social Semantic Desktop [ ... ]

Knowledge Web

The mission of KnowledgeWeb is to strengthen the European industry and service providers in one of the most important areas of current computer technology: Semantic Web enabled E-work and E-commerce. The project concentrates its efforts around the outreach of this technology to industry. Naturally, this includes education and research efforts to ensure the durability of impact and support of industry [ ... ]
