I work at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Galway and pursue a PhD at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) with Dr. David O'Sullivan. I'm part of DERI's Semantic Web Cluster and within that I work in the Semantic Information Systems and Language Engineering (SmILE) Group under Dr. Siegfried Handschuh. I received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic & Computer Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway. I did internships at QSET Ltd. in Galway and at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. I worked as a software developer at INEACorp in Toronto, Ontario. I worked as a visiting researcher at the Logic Group at Stanford University in California, the Ubiquitous Services (UbiServ) Cluster of the Semantic Technology Institute (STI) Innsbruck at University of Innsbruck in Austria and the Biomedical Knowledge Engineering (BiKE) Laboratory at Seoul National University in Korea.
I taught as Dr. Handschuh's teaching assistant for the DM106 Digital Information (Multimedia Semantics) module taught in NUIG's Information Technology department to Masters students taking the Digital Media course at the Huston School of Film & Digital Media for the 2007-08 term. I prepared and delivered lectures and practical sessions, set assignments and examinations and marked students work and presentations. Our module was unanimously cited as the most beneficial to the students in an independent student survey. I also supervise Conor McDaid's Masters project on behalf of the Huston School of Film & Digital Media.
My research interest is the Semantic Web, especially the automatic generation of annotations for media on the Web. I am interested in linking my work with ongoing developments in social networking and media annotation standards.
